Living and dining rooms made ready for use
Define dusting, floors and everyday tidying in the shared spaces of your home.
Start with what the room is for
A living room may also be a play space, work area or the place where the household eats. A dining room may be used daily or mostly when visitors come. Describe how these rooms are used and which surfaces need attention. That helps turn a broad room name into a useful work list.
In an open-plan condo, the kitchen, living and dining areas may share one floor surface. Select the rooms you want included and explain where the cleaning should stop. In a house, identify whether a separate family room or finished basement is also part of the request. These distinctions matter more than a generic whole-home description.
Define accessible dusting
Name the furniture and reachable surfaces that can be attended to, such as tables, shelving and windowsills. Explain what may be moved and what should stay untouched. Collections, framed objects, delicate finishes and electronics need clear instructions rather than assumptions about how they should be handled.
Dusting an accessible shelf is different from removing every item, cleaning a cabinet interior or rearranging its contents. If a more detailed task matters, request it separately. The provider can then confirm whether the available time, access and equipment fit the work.
Clarify floor and upholstery expectations
State the floor materials, rugs and any known care restrictions. Describe where furniture prevents access and whether the household will move smaller objects before the visit. Heavy furniture should not be assumed to move as part of routine floor care.
A request concerning a sofa or upholstered chair needs to specify the intended task. Surface vacuuming where suitable is different from wet extraction, stain treatment or upholstery restoration. Confirm the accepted work and follow the furniture’s care instructions. A regular maid visit is not automatically a specialist fabric-cleaning appointment.
Agree on everyday tidying
Cushions, throws, toys and table items can make a room feel unsettled, but each household has its own preferences. Explain whether a simple reset is wanted and where objects should go. Avoid leaving the cleaner to decide which papers are disposable or which personal belongings belong in another room.
If a large amount of sorting is needed, separate that from cleaning. Clearing an accessible surface lets cleaning begin, while organizing possessions involves decisions that may require the resident. A well-defined visit respects both the home’s privacy and the time available.
Work around daily activities
Tell the provider if the dining table is also a work desk or if someone will need the living room for calls. Agree on a practical sequence so the work can proceed without repeatedly moving between occupied areas. For a visit before guests arrive, give the real deadline but wait for confirmed availability before relying on it.
If pets use these rooms, identify where they will stay and which furnishings they use most. Do not frame the appointment as pet supervision. Explain any objects or doors that need particular care and keep the household responsible for a safe, workable environment.
Make the enquiry measurable
Choose Living room and Dining room as relevant, then add the details that matter: floor type, accessible shelving, a preferred tidy and any furniture-care questions. State whether this is a first reset or a recurring visit. The clearer the list, the easier it is to decide whether the agreed work has been completed.
Use the residential Toronto postal code and confirm the provider, price, supplies and time before booking. If a task proves different from the description, ask how changes will be discussed. The goal is a room that works better for your household through a realistic, agreed plan.
